Lapsilähtöiset siirtymätilanteet varhaiskasvatuksessa

This is a thesis carried out for development of practises in the field of early childhood education. The thesis brings up daily situations in the daycare centre, when the children need to wait for some time when moving from one activity to another. It was our purpose to develop these waiting situations into more child-oriented ones to correspond to the goals, which are set for early childhood education, as well as produce a package of ideas for the education staff to help them when planning for these situations. The work itself was carried out in practice at the workplace of one of the students. In this way we were able to relay the subject of this thesis to working life. We used a method of observation, with which we could observe the transition from the end of one activity to start of another. We especially paid attention to the length of time needed for obligatory waiting moments and the beforehand planned ancillary activities as well as to the consequent quidance by the adults. During the different stages of the process we inquired from the team members about their opinions and points of view as to these facts. We also used group interviews and an open interview method although we generally used a group interview because the whole team of four members took part in the development task. The package of ideas consists of practical advice, in accordance with the Early Childhood Education Plan (2018), connected to areas of learning as to how to smoothen these situations. The package can be used and is suitable for other groups and day care centres and the items and materials are commonly used in centres or are can be easily purchased.
